LOTS - SET OF MEDALS AWARDED TO MAURIUS GERIT WAGENAAR HUMMELINCK (8) Interesting lot of civilian medals following the career of businessman Marius Gerrit Wagenaar (1878-1944). Consisting of a Belgian Order of the Crown, commander's breast star, a Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau, officer's cross, a French Legion of Honor, 5th class Chevalier breast star and a Hungarian Order of Merit (1935-1949) commander's neck badge, second class. Also includes 5 miniatures and rosettes. After completing his secondary education (H.B.S.), Wagenaar-Hummelinck considered studying chemistry at the so-called ''Sugar'' school in Amsterdam. He subsequently worked as an analyst at the Dingelbe sugar factory in Germany and as a chemist at the N.V. Hollandia Dairy Company in Vlaardingen, Bolsward and Purmerend. In 1913 Hummelinck would become General Director of N.V. Hollandia, being primary responsible for franchising the brand across the Netherlands. Besides his directorship, he held numerous additional positions. He was, among other things, co-founder and chairman of the General Technical Association of Beetroot Sugar Manufacturers and Refiners, an advisor to the Dutch Department of War when it came to food processing and technology, a board member of the Commission Internationale des Industries Agricoles.

For his committee work both in the Netherlands and abroad, he would be endowed with several civil decorations - including a Dutch Order of Orange Nassau (Officer's Class) Hungarian Order of Merit (Second Class) and a French Legion D'Honneur (Fifth Class) - several of which will be auctioned at Schulman today.All extremely fine or better.
